Moving Toward Sustainability

Name:
Karen E. Summerly
I work in high tech.

I study dance and martial arts and photography.

I'm fascinated by the way people's minds work.

I'm interested in the question of how people choose to move towards more sustainable ways of living on this planet.

This journal, light_of_summer, was originally concentrated on matters related to my personal journey toward more ecological sustainability, but I'm expanding its mission to include anything related to living a good life. Lately, that includes a lot of photographs. I like noticing the many different kinds of beauty in the world, and I like learning more about the environment that surrounds me, including the plants and animals in my neighborhood, whether wild or domesticated.

I am also the founder and moderator of the now mostly dormant LJ community sustain_weekly, which suggests many practical actions for living more sustainably.

Be welcome!

A Note Regarding My Photos

My LJ photo gallery is at http://pics.livejournal.com/light_of_summer/ -- the gallery currently contains a mixture of older and newer photographs of varying quality, along with a couple of distinctly amateur cartoons. Some of the photographs are also posted in the LJ communities naturesbeauty, texture, and i_heart_bugs.

The organization of my gallery has been massively and unfavorably impacted by the the LJ Scrapbook changes of late May and early June of 2012. I'm interested in recommendations for places to host my photos that have better records for making upgrades actually useful, rather than a euphemism for take-aways and loss of user data. Meanwhile, I have started the slow process of tagging my backlog of photo posts. That seems like the best option currently available on LJ for organizing the many kinds of photos that I want to be able to reach quickly. A list of tags (with links to the tagged posts) is available at http://light-of-summer.livejournal.com/tag/.
